摘要

The article by Parodi, Schonholz, and Parodi reviews in detail what can be done to minimize carotid stent complications during each step of cartid artery stenting (CAS). Their attention to detail is a good example of how CAS needs to be approached in order to minimize embolic complications. Many of their suggestions are a result of an extensive experience with carotid stenting. Through their observations and experience, they allow us the opportunity to learn from their experience and avoid "learning from experience" on our own. The authors stress that experience is a key factor to avoid complications. Previous work has suggested that at least 50 procedures and possibly up to 100 are required to overcome the learning curve for CAS.
