Dr Chung and colleagues provide a thorough analysis of the current and future role of carotid stenting based on results from the literature. The authors eloquently summarize the results of prospective trials comparing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) along with the CAS registries reported to date and provide a glimpse into what we can expect to learn from future trials. They appropriately emphasize that the best results for both CAS and CEA can be obtained with proper patient selection.
