Aramco’s Jizan refinery start-up delayed to 2018

Construction of state-owned Saudi Ara-mco’s 400,000 b/d Jizan refinery will be completed at the end of 2017 and will be fully commissioned in mid-2018,almost two years later than planned. Unlike Aramco and Total’s 400,000 b/d Satorp joint-venture refinery and the 400,000 b/d Yasref plant,Aramco will be the sole operator and owner of the Jizan facility,in a remote area of southwest Saudi Arabia(WPA,8 March 2013,p3). Satorp,located in Jubail,came fully on stream last year,while Aramco’s Yasref joint-venture refinery with Chinese state-controlled company Sinopec,in Yanbu,is gradually increasing output after it began test runs at the end of last year(WPA,23 May,p1).
