Transform margin holds marginal appeal

A licensing round offshore Liberia will test the appeal of west Africa’s heralded transform margin exploration frontier,which has yet to deliver a commercial oil devel-opment despite earlier hopes. The potential of the transform margin surfaced with US upstream independent Anadarko’s deepwater Venus discov-ery,offshore Sierra Leone in 2009.Anadarko estimated that the find in block 6/07 may have established a potential oil province stretching 1,100km eastwards from Venus across offshore Liberia and Ivory Coast to the Jubilee discovery in Ghana(WPA,27 September 2010,p7).
