IMF sees growth prospects for Iran

The IMF expects the Iranian economy to stabilise and return to growth over the next year as the economy emerges from a period of recession. The IMF has advised the Iranian government to be cautious in adopting further energy price hikes as part of its targeted subsidy reform plan.Increas-ing domestic energy prices is an impor-tant step to reduce energy consumption and improve the efficiency of the econ-omy.But“external shocks could sig-nificantly undermine the hard-won sta-bility of Iran’s currency and the envis-aged relative price adjustment”,the IMF said(WPA,12 October 2012,p8).
