Shell started talks with a Nigerian local community on 9 September over financial compensation for two oil spills in the Bodo area of the Niger delta in 2008. Shell accepted responsibility in 2011 for the spills that caused environmental and economic damage, including to fishing traditionally relied upon by the Bodo community.
