Crude nears $50/bl as supply tightens

Supply disruptions and lower US inventories pushed benchmark crude prices to nearly $50/bl. Atlantic basin benchmark North Sea Dated rose by $1.94/bl to $49.49/bl in the week to 26 May, while US marker July WTI gained 81￠/bl to $49.48/bl. US crude stocks fell by 4.2mn bl in the week to 20 May, EIA data published on 25 May show, under pressure from lower imports and production. The data injected a bullish note into a market already supported by tighter supplies. Wildfires in Canada took oil sands facilities off stream in early May, while accidents and rebel attacks have reduced Nigerian output.
