Commentary on 'Iatrogenic injury from vascular access and endovascular procedures'.

Dr Tonnessen has done an excellent job of reviewing the concept of iatrogenic injury surrounding endovascular intervention. We, as vascular surgeons, pride ourselves on being able to fix any injury that nature and society imposes on our patients. It is important to remember, however, that we as interventionalists can also create injury and thus prevention is equally as critical as treatment. Because endovascular intervention has exploded in breadth and depth over the past 15 or 20 years, this problem is increasingly important.
