In the family history focusing on evidence of thrombophilia, you find that the patient's father died of a pulmonary embolus after disembarking from a transatlantic airplane flight. The patient and her mother want to know if she should use OCPs. The girl is leaving for college, and there is concern for an unwanted pregnancy on the one hand and the risk of thrombosis on the other. How should you advise her?
