At a meeting of the Society for Inherited Metabolic Disease (SIMD) at Monterey California at the beginning of the 90's, Larry Shapiro bemoaned the emphasis in Genetic-Metabolic medicine on DNA diagnostics. He wondered out loud whence the treatment for the patients had disappeared. At its winter meeting in December, the Israel Society for Metabolic Diseases placed the emphasis on the treatment of metabolic disorders, specifically on the dietary treatment.
