Did I get your attention? Are you asking, what in the world is the "tween" tooth? I offer it is the cariously involved, vital, immature first permanent molar caught be "tween" pediatric dentistry and endodontics. Neither specialty seems to embrace it or its management. What then is the conundrum? These two groups recommend different management of this tooth, and their final outcomes are very different. Both groups have identifiable reasons for tossing the tooth back and forth for treatment. It seems to be a situation that has no well-defined solution. My goal for this editorial is to entice you to decide that we pediatric dentists should be the ones to embrace it fully and maybe even "own" it.
