The Academy's new Pediatric Oral Health Research and Policy Center (POHRPC) is really the epilogue to a story that begins several decades earlier. My own first reading of this story, at the onset of almost four decades of membership in the Academy, came sitting on the floor of a hotel at a now long-forgotten annual session, editing a hastily written policy statement by senior pediatric dentists on infant oral health. Admittedly, the very idea seemed daft to this young pediatric dentist at the time - a vision on a horizon far too distant for even the most hyperopic of dental and health care thinkers at that time.
