During the last week of May, I received a few reports of heavy walnut caterpillar, Datana integerrima, defoliation in the southern part of the state, specifically Victoria (Victoria County) and Cuero, TX (DeWitt County). Other observations and reportsof feeding in Texas have come from Lamar, Bell and Delta counties. Onsite observations of damaged trees in Cuero on June 2 indicated this infestation was localized and the cycle of the first generation was almost over, with the only larvae observed andcollected being a few last instar stragglers just leaving the trees.
