Rasberry crazy ant: potential problem for pecan producers?

Those producers attending the recent Texas Pecan Growers conference might have heard a few comments at the end of the fire ant presentation on a new exotic species of ant in Texas, the Rasberry crazy ant. This month's column is meant to make you awareof the situation and provide a little additional information. The following information is provided by The Center for Urban and Structural Entomology, http:// UrbanEntomology.tamu.edu, which is a part of the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M. We are not sure of the impact of this new exotic ant in an agricultural setting such as a pecan orchard; so if anyone suspects they may have this ant species in their orchard, please contact me or your local county Extension agent.
