The only thing worse for pecans than a dry September is a dry September when the trees have a heavy crop load. The late season has taken a serious toll on Georgia pecans in 2005. Dry weather combined with heavy pressure from mites and aphids have created a very stressful situation, made worse by the drain put on the trees from the heavy crop load. We have seen a significant amount of late-season shuck decline in many orchards throughout the state and growers are understandably concerned.
