Moving beyond the status quo: excellence in prognostication requires both science and art.

To the Editor:Drs. Gillis and Tobin recently criticized pediatric intensivists for failing to communicate honestly about prognosis with parents of their patients (1), blaming the discontinuity of modern intensive care, inadequate education in prognostication, and lack of courage on the part of physicians. We are concerned about several of the authors' suggestions.
