Each pecan season has its own little quirks, both good and bad. In the Southeast a few years ago, it was hurricanes. In 2005, we had a bone dry September that seemed to suck the life out of a heavy crop and as a result, shuck decline was rampant. Growing conditions in 2007 were almost too perfect in the Southeast, which is quite a quirk in itself. If I had to single out one issue for our 2008 crop, it would be the widespread occurrence of "shuck sticking" throughout Georgia.
