When is an acre not an acre?

The other day I was walking through our pecan orchard with my 5-year-old granddaughter examining the progress of shuck split. She asked, "Grandpa, how many acres of pecans do you have?" I replied that I had about 25 acres. Then she responded, "Grandpa, last year you only had 23 acres. Did you buy more land?" She caught me off guard. How do you explain to a 5-year old that pecan acreage increases just because the trees grow?
