There are a number of grower-accepted practices for pecans —for natives, intensively managed orchards, standard orchards, sustainable orchards, and abandoned orchards. These practices can be used from time to time, regularly, or as a "must do" practice every year. Practices affect pecan alternate bearing, tree health, production, kernel quality and profits. A grower should want to grow pecans; for some this is more than any goal in life. A grower should plan to work hard — physically, mentally, forlong hours — and enjoy the work.A grower will need time available to manage pecans. Human age is seldom a factor because pecans can and have prolonged healthy lives for many people, even to those who start late. Starting early in life can have an advantage via experience and reward gained.
