Pecans should be the first choice

In 37 years at Texas A&M I have had some wild requests for information on growing off-the-wall crops. One cannot believe that people are absolutely serious about growing these crops in Texas: hican nuts, pawpaw nuts, Tung nuts, chestnuts, macadamia nuts, filberts, English walnuts, black walnuts, pignuts, heartnuts, pistachios, almonds, coffee, avocados, citrus, apples, pears, quince, pomegranates, cherries, nectarines, plums, jujube, kiwifruit, mayhaw, mulberry, maypops, date palms, figs, table grapes, wine-grapes, guava, persimmons, and olives have all been attempted by individuals who did not want to grow pecans.
