Williams Acquires Techni-Met

Williams Advanced Materials Inc., a subsidiary of Brash Engineered Materials Inc., has acquired the assets of privately held Techni-Met Inc. for approximately 90 million dollars. Techni-Met, with 45 employees at two leased facilities in Windsor, CT, buys physical vapor deposition (PVD) targets from Williams. It then deposits the metal and/or ceramic oxide on flexible polymeric films to form single and multilayer antireflective and barrier coatings. The company's real jewel, however, is its ability to deposit parylene coatings on a broad range of substrates. These are made by pyrolyzing paraxylene molecules to form 500-Angstrom-thick coating. Unlike liquids and sprays, deposition avoids voids, pinholes, pooling, and bridging, and covers even hidden areas.
