European chemical giant Arkema (formerly part of France's Total Group) will license Zyvex Corp.'s Kentera technology to disperse its multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). Arkema will also become Zyvex's exclusive distributor in Europe of Zyvex's NanoSolve nanomaterial concentrates. The deal is part of Arkema's attempt to move into specialty products after making its name in such chlorine-based products as polyvinyl chloride. In 2005, it opened a plant in Lacq, France, to manufacture 11,000 pounds/year of high-purity multifunctional MWNTs. Shortly after, it announced a deal with Zyvex to develop commercial nanomaterial applications.
