Supercapacitors, also called electrochemical double layer capacitors (KDLCs) or ultracapacitors, are electrochemical capacitors that charge and discharge large quantities of energy at extremely high rates. By offering fast charging and discharging rates, and the ability to sustain millions of cycles, supercapacitors bridge the gap between batteries, which. offer high energy densities but are slow. They are also superior to conventional electrolytic capacitors, which are fast but have low energy densities. Supercapacitors have a variety of commercial applications such as momentary load devices, energy storage devices, hybrid electric vehicles, portable electronic equipment, and so on.
