Tullamore 2008 looking back at 13th International Peat Congress

The main event for IPS in 2008 was of course the 13th International Peat Congress, held in Tullamore, Ireland on 9 - 13 June 2008. For one week, IPS members and all others interested in peat and peatlands could enjoy the hospitality of our Irish hosts, listen to excellent presentations and finish every day in one of the comfortable pubs of the little town in the middle of the bogs, only 1.5 hours drive from Dublin. Altogether 537 scientists, students and company representatives attended the Congress of which the largest groups came from Ireland (142), Finland (86), Germany (77), the United Kingdom (30),the Netherlands (25) and Canada (24). The participants were accommodated in different hotels in Tullamore and Athlone, with transfers provided in the morning and afternoon each day-and because of the small size of the town, one could practically see familiar faces all over the place. This turned out to be a very good arrangemem for continuing discussions on work, but also private topics after a day full of scientific information.
