Due to the complex nature of their inner workings, gearboxes are an often ignored area of modification. However, this shouldn't be the case, as we explore here... Most road users will think of a gearbox as just a box of tricks that's best left alone as long as it's working, and that's why many ignore them when it comes to modifying. But considering the amount of time spent changing gear each time you drive your car either on the road, around a race track or during a race then even the most basic of road cars can benefit from upgrades. For more seriously tuned cars gearboxes are upgraded for strength and reliability as much as, anything but improved gearshifts and better performance are also added bonuses. Last of all there are gearboxes that work in a totally different way, such as sequentials, which offer massive performance benefits on track or road.
