Joe Nutter has gone against the grain with his Focus RS, combining trendy looks with awesome power. The Mk1 Focus RS is one of our all time favourites here at PF, for the simple reason that Ford managed to get it so right straight out-of-the-box. All RS models are, of course, special breeds, but with the Mk1 Focus we were treated to a fantastic combination of 212bhp 2.0-litre turbo, rally-bred chassis, Brembo brakes, sharp styling and a Quaife limited-slip diff. It still looks good today as well, and with a decade of aftermarket tuning development behind it, the paths to more power and greater performance are not only well-trodden, but produce some excellent results. The only problem is that with so many tried and tested off-the-shelf mods for the Mk1 RS, it can be quite hard to stand out from the crowd, unless you're prepared to spend some serious money that is, and the same can be said of styling trends. We've lost count of the number of Foci we see at shows with the same set of Comps, the same brakes and almost identical engine bays, and while we can't blame people for following trends, it's a rare treat to be presented with a car that actually dares to be different, and an even rarer one that actually manages to make it work!
