As most of you will know, your car won't last long if it's deprived of its oil. Mike Tanski talks us through the importance of the oil pump and why it forms the heart of your engine. The oil pump is, literally, the heart of the engine. Most of us will have heard of some catastrophic failures after the oil supply has been interrupted, and the unlucky ones will have experienced it themselves. Because I'm an old fart, I have to remind myself that a lot of the failures I'm familiar with just don't happen in the same way nowadays - engines, engineering processes and oils are all so much more complex now, so engines are less likely to suffer the older problems.
