Partnering with centers of excellence in high- and low-middle-income countries: A strategy to strengthen child health globally

Respiratory disease is the major cause of childhood mortality and morbidity worldwide [1]. The spectrum of disease ranges from respiratory infections such as pneumonia or tuberculosis to chronic non-communicable diseases such as asthma. The predominant burden of paediatric respiratory infection is in low- or middle-income countries [2], where there is often limited capacity for radiologic investigations and limited ra-diologic expertise relative to the burden of disease. It is therefore highly appropriate that the World Federation of Pediatric Imaging has chosen respiratory infections and tuberculosis as a key focus.
