Lack of use of MDI device in acute asthma: an Italian survey.

To the Editor:Notwithstanding the fact that asthma represents one of the most widespread chronic pathologies both in adults and children, innovation in the field of its therapy during the last years has been little.The principles of asthma treatment have remained almost unchanged over the last 10 years. Nevertheless, in contrast with most drugs given orally, there are noteworthy margins of improvement in the use of inhaled anti-asthmatic drugs. The choice of the inhalation device and its correct use can really sensibly modify the therapeutic effect. Half a century has passed from the introduction of metered dose inhalator (MDI), which have been until now a valid and practical alternative to nebulizers.
