Influenza a (H1N1) virus pneumonia in newborns: experience of a referral level iii neonatal intensive care unit in turkey.

We read with great interest the recent paper by Sert et al. about management of a 6-day-old male infant who was referred with fever and got diagnosis of influenza A (H1N1) virus pneumonia. Although the authors reviewed the treatment regimen in neonatal period, they did not comment on the measures which they applied to prevent the spread of the infection in their neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Being the largest Level III NICU (including 150 incubators) in Turkey, we dealed with 24 newborns born to the pregnant women with influenza A and two outpatient neonates who got diagnosis of influenza A vims pneumonia during the pandemics, so that, we would like to share our experience including preparedness strategies and its results about influenza A pandemics during postpartum and early neonatal period.
