Visceral heterotaxia with polysplenia syndrome and haemorrhagic splenic infarction as a rare cause of the acute paediatric abdomen
I read with interest the recent description of a girl with heterotaxy and acute splenic infarction . I, too, have seen such a child and present here a description of this patient. A 2-year-old girl with acute right-sided abdominal pain underwent a CT scan at an outside hospital. The initial interpretation was one of abscess in the right upper quadrant, and she was referred to our hospital. The CT scan (Fig. 1) demonstrated a lack of contrast enhancement of a normal-sized single spleen and heterotaxy syndrome. She was treated conservatively, without spleen removal, and recovered without incident.
