When subjecting a coating to approval testing or assessing the suitability of the finished coated job, the determination of the coating adhesion performance is essential for demonstrating that the coating will stick to the substrate and be fit for purpose, particularly when subjecting it to loads and stresses, such as weathering, high humidity and exposure to hostile environments. Tensile testing is one of the methods used to determine the adhesion performance of a cured bond and this method is often referred to as the pull-off test.
