11th International Conference on Long-Term Complications of Treatment of Children and Adolescents for Cancer. Forward.

The Eleventh International Conference on the Long-Term Complications of Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Cancer, co-sponsored by a conference grant from the National Cancer Institute and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, was held in Williamsburg, Virginia from June 11 to 12, 2010. The conference attendees included 325 physicians, scientists, advanced practice nurses, nurses, and allied health professionals from the North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia/Oceania.The conference included platform and poster presentations of submitted abstracts, as well as 11 invited presentations organized around the theme of the symposium. These presentations encompassed the health consequences of obesity, obesity as a disorder of energy balance, the role of the neuroendocrine system in energy balance, monogenic causes of obesity, the roles of insulin and gastrointestinal peptide hormones in energy balance, the roles of adiponectin and ghrelin in appetite regulation, the role of the endocannabinoid system in energy balance, the methods for measurement of energy expenditure, the components of an exercise intervention, the role of pharmacologic intervention for the management of obesity and the role of bariatric surgery in the management of obesity.
