Ewing sarcoma bone metastases: 'you see one, you've seen them all': (commentary on Furth et al., page 607).

Dr. Furth et al. have demonstrated the utility of a PET scan and MRI scan to delineate additional sites of bone and/or bone marrow metastases that were not apparent on bone scan in a 15-year-old female with Ewing sarcoma of the distal left femur. Radiotherapy was administered to every metastatic site detected on the PET scan.Their report raises several important issues. The first is the significance of improved staging of metastatic disease. Second is the utility of radiotherapy to all known sites of bone metastasis. The third issue is the importance in Ewing sarcoma of radiographic response assessment.
