Application of modern mining equipment in a lignite opencast mine in the Czech Republic

Under its modernization programme of the mining equipment, Severoceske doly ordered one spreader and two bucket wheel excavators from a joint venture formed by Prodeco and ThyssenKrupp Fordertechnik. The spreader went into operation in 2000 (Figure 4). The first bucket wheel exscavator was commis-sioned into operation in May 2002 (Figures 5 and 6). The design for the second bucket wheel excavator was started in October 2002. In the meantime. Severoceske doly has placed another order with the joint venture for modernization of an existing bucket wheel exfcavator in operation.
