Practical application of the nutrition recommendations for the prevention and treatment of obesity in pediatric primary care.

Childhood obesity is epidemic and has tripled over the past 3 decades, making the need for effective prevention and treatment strategies of paramount importance. Major targets for prevention and treatment of childhood obesity include nutrition and feeding behaviors, physical activity, and sedentary behavior. Recommendations for physical activity and sedentary behavior have been reviewed elsewhere in this series. This article focuses on the nutrition recommendations for the prevention and treatment of childhood overweight and obesity.
