Synthesis of (-)-(5R,6S)-6-acetoxyhexadecanolide, a mosquito oviposition attractant pheromone of Culex pipiens fatigans

Asymmetric total synthesis of (-)-(5R,6S)-6-acetoxy-hexadecanolide has been achieved via a key intermediate which was prepared by a Grignard reaction from an alcohol. The alcohol was easily accessed via two different routes.
