Convenient syntheses of 5,5-disubstituted 2,4-dithiohydantoins 7 and alpha-[bis(alkylthio)methyleneimino]-alpha-cyano-alkanoic acid esters 8 via alpha-cyano-alpha-(dichloromethyleneimino)alkanoic acid esters 4 by conversion with sulfides and thiolates are described. The mechanism of the formation of 7 is investigated. [References: 25]
