Lanxess opens butyl rubber plant in Singapore

GERMAN chemicals manufacturer Lanxess has launched a butyl rubber plant in Singapore as a base to grow their pan-Asian business. Butyl rubber is used to make a variety of end products such as rubber tyres and chewing gum. The S$656 million (400 million euros) rubber plant on Jurong Island marks the largest investment in the company's history and is set to create 160 new jobs for Singapore workers.The plant will have a capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes. It went into operation in the first quarter of 2013 and is being ramped up gradually. Commercial production will start in the third quarter of this year. The facility is expected to achieve full capacity in 2015.
