摘要

This is the fourth book by our esteemed columnist to be reviewed in our pages, and as ever, it is highly topical. As discussed in his previous column (March 2015, page 27) and current column (page 17), India is in the midst of major reform as regards effluent discharge. All companies, not just those producing pulp and paper, are required both to limit discharge, and monitor continuously on an ongoing basis, the aim being to attain near 'zero liquid discharge'. The unintended consequence of this is a build-up of contaminants at the site of production, some of which are highly corrosive to manufacturing plant. This new book looks at all parts of the pulp and paper production process, focussing in particular on what contamination is likely to occur, and what materials can be used to resist corrosion.
