This year's end has brought, for our editorial team, a change of a very special kind. It is not" every day that one bids farewell to someone who has served on the editorial board for so long. And our Senior Editor, Prof. Werner Straub, has indeed been associated with Swiss Medical Weekly since 1975. When in 2001 the former "Schweizerische Medi-zinische Wochenschrift" was split into the Swiss Medical Weekly (research and review articles) and the Swiss Medical Forum (continuing education), Werner Straub opted for the Swiss Medical Weekly. He gave his support to editors and authors further along the way to online reviewing and later to the primary online journal. When he retired in 2008 from an operative editorship role it was a great pleasure to know that he would continue to support the editorial team as a critical presence and wise counsellor.
