The impact of infections on critically ill acute heart failure patients An observational study

The aim was to investigate the impact of infections on the clinical course of critically ill patients with acute heart failure (AHF), both present on intensive care unit (ICU) admission and acquired during the ICU stay. In this study, infections were common in AHF patients admitted to the ICU. They contributed to organ dysfunction and prolonged the length of the ICU and hospital stay. Nosocomial infections acquired during the ICU stay had a negative impact on short and long-term mortality of patients with AHF.
