Bugs are beautiful, bugs are beastly, but above all, bugs are the best. Lynn Dicks onthe top places to see insects and other invertebrates - both alive and dead. "Yeeuch. DisGUSTing," shriek the children crowding round the first exhibit in London Zoo's BUGS hall. A live nest of leaf-cutter ants is on show, and thousands of the reddish insects are carrying leaf discs to their nest. The soldier ants, with their huge distended heads and jaws, are particularly gruesome. The next exhibit is even more skin-crawling. An unkempt kitchen scene with uneaten food, unwashed dishes and dirty surfaces, crawls with large cockroaches. The children are fascinated.
