European output data signals modest recovery rather than a rebound

Production of paper and board in CEPI countries during the first quarter of 2011 stood at 24.3 million tonnes. This represented a 2.6% (+619,000 tonnes) increase over the same quarter last year. The figure was also higher than the average quarterly production registered during 2010. It, however, remained below the levels posted before the recent economic downturn and this is due to the fact that overall paper and board demand within most parts of Europe has experienced only a modest overall recovery rather than a rebound.
