Saying that 2001 has been a difficult year for doing business in or with the paper industry is an understatement.Paper companies are facing problems related toa downturn in consumer spending,unfavorable exchange rates,increased productioncosts,inventorylevels that are still too high,and low-cost foreign competition,just to name a few.And although there has been trementdous consolidation on both the producer and supplier sides of the industry,along with substantia capacity reductions,the market has yet to respnd favorably to these tactical maneuvers.
