In 1988, Randy Branston became a Senior Scientist at BASF, where his activities encompassed the development of new latex binders as well as research into some common paper coating process problems, which resulted in a series of publications on the mechanics of weeping in blade coating—one of which won Best Paper Award at the 1993 TAPPI Coating Conference.
