Private equity firms have become major players in the market,and according to Thompson Financial represented 25% of all U.S.merger and acquisition activity in 2006.In addition,they continue to grow and change to fit the climate as evidenced by the US45 billion bid for TXU by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts,Texas Pacific Group and Goldman Sachs,and the filing of a registration statement by Blackstone Group L.P.,announcing its intentions to go public-the first private equity firm to do so.
