Reported combustible dust fires and explosions in the pulp and paper industry have been relatively scarce compared to other types of combustible dusts such as food, wood, metals and rubber. In the 25-year period from 1980 to 2005, there have been a total of 281 explosion incidents, 66 of which were attributed to wood and paper dust (Figure 1).
