Palliative Medicine in the United States: the first Lake Bluff Forum

The direction of palliative medicine in the United States over the past decade has largely been determined by two foundations-the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Open Society Institute's Project on Death in America-which have underwritten key projects and supported leadership in the field. With the change in focus of these two foundations, palliative medicine has not only lost the funding that has sustained the growth of the field, but also an informal brain trust to guide us into the future.
