Comparing hospice and hospital.

This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.Sir - we read with interest Addington-Hall and O'Callaghan's paper. They used the Views of Informal Carers - Evaluation of Services (VOICES) questionnaire to compare experiences of relatives of patients who had died in hospice and hospital. The study contains important messages although some authors have concerns about the reliability of relatives' views, arguing that such studies only examine the care of patients who die. A considerable percentage of patients (between 33 and 50% per month at our hospice) are discharged home.
